What is the difference between a DUII and a DUI or DWI?

The terms DUII, DUI, DWI, DWI, OWI, OVI, OUI, OUIL, OMVI, DWUI, and DWAI, are all acronyms that refer to the crime commonly known as "drunk driving."  Different states have different names for the charge.  For example in California, and Washington state, the charge is referred to driving under the influence or DUI.  Ohio law refers to operating a vehicle under the influence or OVI.  New York, Texas, and Missouri use the term to driving while intoxicated or DWI.  Massachusetts and Maine use the term OUI.  It all means the same:  operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol / controlled substances / inhalants / marijuana.

In Oregon, the charge is called "driving under the influence of intoxicants" or DUII.
